ZED consulting for Indian manufacturing MSMEs: gap closure and records for Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Ace prepares you; QCI-authorised assessors issue the rating.
MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification — Zero Defect Zero Effect — is a Ministry of MSME scheme. Quality Council of India (QCI) implements it. It is meant for manufacturing MSMEs registered on UDYAM that want a graded rating of quality and environmental practices, not an IAF ISO certificate.
Zero Defect is about making products that hold specification with fewer rejects. Zero Effect is about cutting avoidable harm from energy, waste, emissions, and unsafe work. The assessment looks at how the unit actually runs — process control, housekeeping, safety, energy, environment, and improvement — not a slide deck.
Ace Professional Services helps you close gaps, write usable records, and sit the authorised assessment. Ace does not issue ZED ratings and is not QCI. The certificate or rating comes from the scheme’s authorised assessment route. Confirm current rules, fees, and subsidy on zed.msme.gov.in.
You choose a level on the portal. Upgrading before the current rating expires is allowed under the published scheme; cost and subsidy follow the level you apply for, not a discounted “top-up” invented by a consultant.
Typical official steps (always match the live ZED portal): register with UDYAM details, take the ZED Pledge, complete self-assessment, upload documents, select Bronze/Silver/Gold, pay the scheme fee, and go through assessment by an authorised agency until QCI’s process issues the rating.
Ace’s job sits around that path: honest self-assessment, documents that match the shop floor, closing gaps before the assessor arrives, and debrief after. We do not click “certified” on your behalf.
The Ministry has published indicative certification fees of ₹10,000 (Bronze), ₹40,000 (Silver), and ₹90,000 (Gold), a joining reward of ₹10,000 (Bronze can become nil if that reward is applied), and a size-based subsidy on certification cost of 80% micro / 60% small / 50% medium. Extra percentages are published for some women/SC/ST-owned units, notified geographies, and SFURTI / MSE-CDP units. These are government figures, not Ace’s consulting fee, and they change. We quote implementation separately. We do not guarantee that your unit will receive any subsidy.
Registration and self-assessment can be days if UDYAM and records exist. Authorised assessment and issuance are often quoted in a range of several weeks to a couple of months when the unit is already close to the chosen level. Gap closure for Silver or Gold, weak process records, or several sheds takes longer. Ace gives a dated plan after seeing the unit — not a single published duration.
Expect UDYAM, PAN, GST where it applies, and evidence of how you run quality, safety, and environment — not a generic “ISO folder.” Previous ISO or other certificates help as context; they do not replace ZED parameters. Ace maps what you have against the level you chose and lists what is missing.
ZED is not ISO 9001, 14001, or 45001. Many MSMEs do ZED first for the scheme and subsidy, then add an IAF-accredited ISO certificate for export or tenders — or the other way around. They remain separate decisions. See ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
Confirm UDYAM manufacturing status and which ZED level you can evidence today. Ace will say if Gold is premature.
Walk the unit against quality, safety, environment, energy, and improvement parameters for the chosen level. You get a written gap list and a fixed-price close-out plan.
Support registration, ZED Pledge, and self-assessment so scores match the shop floor. Inflated self-scores fail at authorised assessment.
Close gaps: process discipline, monitoring, waste and energy basics, safety, and records the assessor can sample. We do not invent a 31st document type.
Prepare for the QCI-authorised assessor. Ace attends as consultant support where the scheme allows. The assessor, not Ace, rates the unit.
Debrief findings, plan Bronze→Silver/Gold if you want it, and keep surveillance or upgrade rules as the portal states them.
